Abstract:
Through us, ethics interweave our entire society. Ethical, moral principles, and their fulfilment, are present in science, arts, as well as in the political and economic areas of our life. The basic principle for the performance of professional social work is respect for human rights and social justice. The society has high expectations for a social worker’s activities, whereas the moral standards of the society are lower. The legislative environment, and the norms which apply to social workers’ decision-making, are specified by legislation as well as by generally binding ethical norms. In practice, this gives rise to ethical dilemmas based on the acceptance of a certain hierarchy, i.e. assigning priority to certain norms. This situation may cause dilemmas in the relationship between professional ethics and valid social norms.
