The Church is not isolated from the social environment in which it realizes its basic tasks and functions. It is connected to the social sphere by numerous and deep interactions and relations. Perception of the position and role of the Church in religious and social life are important research tasks in the sociology of religion and also in this article. In the Church, as well as in the other institutions of public life, there are present processes of integration and disintegration, institutionalization and deinstitutionalization, privatization and re-privatization, etc. It is continuously influenced by external and internal conditions, global and local conditions. In this article, three specific issues were considered in the first place: The Catholic Church as a religious and social institution; The Catholic Church in political life; Projections for Polish Catholicism.Catholic Church, Poland, public area, religion
