Abstract:
This paper suggests the importance of sociological research of emotions the tradition of which could be traced to the founders of sociology. Its empirical ground is the collection of 210 letters initiated by the call published in the January 1990 with the intent to get description of experiences of people of “the Gentle revolution” at their workplaces, communities and in their families. Paper is theoretically informed by the research that recognises people’s ability to know their situation and have sound reasons for their emotions and by the research that suggests the role of culture and common knowledge in experiencing emotions. It provides empirical illustration that thanks to culture and common knowledge collective emotions can be experienced even in isolation. Paper also offers typology of fears and worries that the letters share with us about the future of the country. Keywords:
